How to be the Best Bridesmaid Ever!

You’ve been asked to be a bridesmaid and you know everything that is expected of you for this honored task. In fact, you know you’re going to rock the basic duties and want to step up your game. Lucky for you we know exactly what you need to do to be the best bridesmaid ever!

Tips for How to Be the Best Bridesmaid Ever

Be the Bride’s Eyes and Ears

“A photographer will be around most of the day, there are so many memories to capture. Having a bridesmaid who is familiar with wedding guests and can help keep things energetic, fun, and on schedule is every bride AND photographer’s dream! Having another bridesmaid on the look out for the little things the day of the wedding is also so important. Keep on eye on the bride and when she needs her bouquet held, train picked up, a tissue, makeup/hair fix. Bridesmaids have a big role of keeping the bride a priority and helping create lasting memories and beautiful photographs to look back on!” – Courtney, Owner of Courtney June Photography

 Get Assistance From Professionals

“Event planners aren’t just for the bride and the wedding day. Bridesmaids can use an event planner for coordinating the bridal shower, bachelorette party, or a dress shopping brunch.  A wedding planner can help you find the perfect location for the guest list, help you design a theme around the event, provide insight into cost and deals/promotions going on, and help with choosing ideal vendor partners for the event.  They have experience with all types/styles of events, so utilize their expertise to help you throw a stress-free, fun event for the group.” – Jaime Engebretson. Owner of J’aime Events

Let Them Eat Cake!

“Now, more than ever, adding color, texture, and other fun elements to wedding cakes really lets the unique personalities of a couple shine through.  These same rules apply to wedding shower or bachelorette cakes too!  Bridesmaids will find working with a cake designer is a fun way to provide the party day with something totally unique.  The only caveat is that the more details, and the higher quality baker you pick, the higher the price.  HOWEVER, a good cake designer will be able to make suggestions based on your budget that might help you save a bit, if cost is the biggest concern. They’ll show you how you can REALLY add flair and personality to a centerpiece cake!” – Michelle Engebretson, Owner of Happy Caker Bake Shop

Make Friends With The Vendors

“Our farm is a big place with over 100 beautiful acres!  So being the point of contact for the happy couple, as a trusted bridesmaid, would be wonderful. We have an onsite event host that would be delighted to establish this type of relationship with members of the bridal party.  This ensures the couple isn’t caught up in logistics and can truly enjoy their special day!” – Kelly Dennis, Owner of Golden Oak Farm

Be Picture Ready

“Too often when bridesmaids enter the wedding ceremony, they carry their flowers too high — up by their chest. The perfect way to showcase your dress and bouquet is to position your flowers at your waist and tip them forward slightly. This technique will emphasize the flowers rather than the underside of the bouquet. One exception is if you have embellishments at your waist. In that case, carry your bouquet lower, not higher.” – Lynette Dorfner, Owner of Lynette’s Touch of Design

Bride and Bridesmaid Opening Gifts

Give Her a Unique Wedding Gift

“Being a bridesmaid is an honor. Yes, you’re running around trying to get things organized and keep the bride calm, but you’re doing it because you love and value her. It can be difficult to express your appreciation for the blushing bride individually, but a group gift is the perfect way to show her that you care. By grouping together, you can provide something thoughtful, grandiose, and unique that expresses your collective love for her. For something truly unique, consider renting a luxurious bridal suite that will give her a bridal experience she will never forget.

This gift offers the bride and bridal party a beautiful space to get ready in while surrounding her with luxuory and comfort. These days, most bridal parties take candid photos that show them spending time together and getting ready for the wedding ceremony. Of course, these pictures are all the more special if they are taken in a beautiful bridal suite. Hiring an aesthetically pleasing space for the pre-wedding celebrations is a gift that the bride will always remember through the beauty of her pre-wedding snapshots.” – Heidi Mathson, Owner of Dream Day Dressing Rooms

Make the Wedding Day Prep Fun

“Make the time you guys spend getting hair and makeup done fun! I love when bridesmaids bring their favorite tunes and crank them up while they’re getting ready. It really sets a fun and relaxing mood for everyone, and is a great stress reliever for the bride too.” – Jody Winter, Owner of Winter Artistry

Keep Things Positive

“Having the honor of being a bridesmaid is so special and can come with so many responsibilities. I think the best part is watching the bride enjoy special moments and helping to keep the day positive and energetic. There is a marriage to witness, but mostly you’re there to help a really special friend ensure she feels beautiful and has the best day of her life.” – Stephanie Fleek, Owner of Oh Sugar Studio

  1. I think Courtney’s tip of being the Brides eyes and ears is so important. I had two adult bridesmaids on my wedding day, and they were both excellent! I wouldn’t have changed the two wonderful women i had as my bridesmaids, but they weren’t great at the whole, letting me know if my makeup needing touching up thing, or helping to position my train of my dress for pictures. It would have been really good if one of them had known that sort of thing would have been appreciated by me.

  2. I found the first paragraph (by Courtney) to be very powerful. I didn’t realise a good bridesmaid was so helpful to the photographer but will definitely keep this in mind when I’m a bridesmaid next year 😀

    • So glad you found it helpful. Just being there when the bride is getting pictures to hand her a water or to fix her hair keeps the her stress levels down. Just don’t over do it and try to take control. Then you’ll be a bridesmaidzilla! Haha.

    • I agree with Courtney 100%!!! I love that she mentions staying on-time. Most photographers will have a day-of timeline for when they plan to start pictures. If the bride & photographer plan to start at a certain time, PLEASE be ready!
